IPAC Core Competencies are basic skills and knowledge all Ontario health care workers need to have. This course helps learner improve Infection Prevention and Control knowledge to help decrease the risk of transmission of infection in health care. This can help protect workers, their clients/patients/residents, and co-workers from infections, regardless of their role, position, education and experience.

Basic Life Support (BLS) is the foundational course for healthcare professionals and trained first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. Heart & Stroke’s BLS training courses teach the theoretical and hands-on skills needed to respond to medical emergencies.

We learned the fundamental skills of high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for victims of all ages. You will practice delivering these skills as a single rescuer and as a member of a multi-rescuer team.

This course ensures that people in cardiac arrest have the best chance of survival.

This comprehensive training program for volunteers prepares individuals to provide front-line care within the palliative care community. Topics include professional boundaries, effective communication, pain and symptom management, the dying process, spirituality, grief and bereavement, self-care for caregivers, ethics, psychosocial issues, and more.

Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Workplace Violence and Harassment Training, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act Training Certificates. These programs focus on the health and safety rights and responsibilities of workers, supervisors and employers and provide general introduction to workplace health, safety and inclusion.

In this group project, we selected an infectious organism not discussed in class. We made a poster to educate individuals about the chain of infection for Human Papilloma Virus.

The purpose of this assignment is to give the learner the opportunity to develop an awareness of the work of the professional registered nurse, and gain an understanding regarding the impact of this career on a nurses’ biopsychosocial and spiritual well-being, provide an opportunity to consider both the benefits and challenges associated with the nursing profession, and identify potential strategies to manage these challenges in the future, offer the learner an opportunity to practice basic interviewing skills.
